PUUF Weekly Update 9-4-20
PUUF FINDS A NEW HOME…
The PUUF Board and Rev. Jenny Peek toured the new location recommended by the Ad Hoc Relocation Committee at 426 West Lewis. The Board has agreed to lease this location beginning October 1.
Rent and utilities will be slightly less than our current rent at the UCC building. There are four rooms for a PUUF office, meeting space, minister’s study, and kitchen/bathroom/storage. The landlord has kindly agreed to make the bathroom for ADA compliant. We will begin moving during September.
In the future, with removal of one non-bearing wall (at PUUF expense,) we will be able to have a 512 square foot worship space large enough to accommodate between 25 and 50 people depending upon seating arrangement.
… AND WE NEED HELP MOVING
Before we move our furnishings etc. out of UCC, we need to clean our new home – wash windows, vacuum rugs, etc. We need 2 to 4 members or friends to be willing to prepare for the move. If you are willing, please contact Bob Gehrke at firstname.lastname@example.org or text 208-680-4766, and he will keep you informed of when we can begin. Afterward, we will ask another group to do the actual move of office furniture, books, and storage items, etc.
SEPTEMBER WORSHIP SERVICES
Summer salons are ending soon, and our worship services will revert to first, third and fifth Sundays only – still all virtual via Zoom, at 4:00pm. Here’s our worship schedule for September:
Sunday, Sept. 6th: “Missing Remnants” The Rev. Dr. Sofia Betancourt wrote that each of us represents a missing remnant in the collective fabric of our future. What would we bring of ourselves to offer our descendants? Rev. Jenny Peek offers her reflection, Becky Hardy is our Worship Coordinator.
Sunday, Sept. 20th: “In-Gathering” Our casual summer salons end for another season, and our in-gathering marks the beginning of our Fall and Winter services. How do you bid summer farewell this year? How do you open your heart to a new season of worship, learning, and striving for beloved community?
Rev. Jenny Peek is our worship leader for this first ever all virtual in-gathering service. All are invited to send creative expressions to Rev. Jenny, at email@example.com. With the theme of in-gathering, long celebrated with the metaphor of water, we might send photos of art work, poetry or prose with a brief description of its meaning.
TOWN HALL TO DISCUSS NEW SUNDAY MEETING TIME
The PUUF Board considered results of the survey regarding Sunday worship/RE meeting time at its August 25th meeting. Of the 15 respondents, 12 agree we should shift to a morning time, 2 report neutral/mixed feelings, and 1 desires retaining our afternoon time. A morning time that is best for current and potential attendees is difficult to determine and the board would like to hear more from you.
Results of Sunday morning times survey (top three only):
9:00 a.m.: 10 people chose as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice (7,2,1, respectively)
9:30 a.m.: 11 people chose as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice (2,7,2)
10:00 a.m.: 12 people chose as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice (3,1,8)
Please attend the town hall meeting about this topic on Sunday, September 20, immediately after the worship service (5 p.m.).
DRAFT BEHAVIORAL COVENANT
The PUUF board has approved use of this draft behavioral covenant during the 2020-21 year, leading up to its consideration at our 2021 annual meeting:
“In pursuit of beloved community, I endeavor to be responsible for my words and actions, and honor the rights, thoughts, and feelings of others. I strive to uphold the Unitarian Universalist principles, which call me into right relations, social justice action, and environmental stewardship. To support and nurture this community I offer my time, talents, and treasure.”
If you have comments throughout the year about this draft, please send them to board president Bob Gehrke: firstname.lastname@example.org.
JOIN THE FOOD FIGHTERS!
The results of our social issue survey early this summer revealed our members care a lot about fighting food insecurity. Join our volunteer group the first and/or third Wednesday of the month, 5:00 or 5:30 – 7:00 to help out at the food bank. Contact Don Allen at email@example.com for information on volunteering.
