Have you heard about Juneteenth? Nearly three years after the Emancipation Proclamation of 1862, Black people in Texas received the message: They were enslaved no more! On June 19, 1865, people celebrated this freedom. Today, we celebrate Juneteenth on the third Saturday of June each year.
The Pocatello branch of NAACP is planning our local celebration of Juneteenth for Saturday, June 18th, at the Senior Center. From 11am – 3pm, people will enjoy a barbeque, music, great raffle prizes, and more.
How can our Fellowship support this community celebration? Glad you asked! NAACP Pocatello President, Ken Monroe, welcomes help of all kinds. Over the next couple of weeks, he will let us know specifically how we may contribute. Ideas are in the works, so stay tuned to our Weekly Updates and let Rev. Jenny know if you can be on the team.
And for sure, save the date–June 18th, 11am – 3pm–and come out for Pocatello’s Juneteenth 2022 celebration! Family friendly and full of fun for all.
Tickets are on sale now at Farmers Market. Adults: $25/each. Children 6 – 12: $15/each. Children 5 and under: Free!
