Sunday Service – Inherent Worth and Dignity

“Inherent worth and dignity are all well and good, but . . .”

As Unitarian Universalists, we affirm and promote seven principles, the first of which is “the inherent worth and dignity of every person”. How do we live true to this principle, when confronted with the reality that humans can and do cause suffering?

We ask ourselves, “What about evil: is evil also inherent? Does evil cancel out worth and dignity? How are we to treat people we know are committing acts of harm? Is there some sort of way to weigh acts of wrong-doing, by severity or quantity? If so, how does this inform our own actions?” Come, let’s worship together!
